Text Box: Artist’s Statement
Text Box: As a youngster, I was always a daydreamer. My parents were always chiding me to come back to reality as colorful visions danced through my head. I always wanted to be a painter but was raised in a small village in Missouri where there were no art classes. There were, however, always pencils and paper to collect my creative urges. I did not begin to paint until shortly after I was married. My husband bought me a paint box loaded with oil paints and brushes as a Christmas gift and I haven't been able to put them down since that time.

I am known for my colorist ethereal style and bold approach as I simplify the subject matter into a rhythmic dance of light and shape. I enjoy the subtle blending and juxtaposition of color each time I approach a painting. It is not so much a place or setting that I think about but more the idea of how to interpret the effects of light, color, mood and atmosphere. My task has always been to blend all of those elements of the scene together harmoniously and to create a work that people can enjoy and discover new things every time they view the painting.

I've been very involved with the entire art world for many years, trying to encourage beginning artists by mentoring and teaching. I teach workshops both locally and nationally. I have organized several cooperative galleries, and helped establish the Northern Michigan Workshops summer art program while in Traverse City, Michigan. I am a signature member of the International Society of Experimental Artists (ISEA) and recently achieved Nautilus Fellow status. I’m also a member of the Oil Painters of America and the Georgia Watercolor Society. Being the head of the Traverse City Summer Art Workshop Program enabled me to study under 30 or more nationally recognized artists.

I have exhibited in a multitude of national juried shows, group shows and one-person showings. I've been published in "The Best of Floral Painting II," North Light Book Club magazine cover, and did a major fund raising commission for the organizations - Compassionate Friends, and the Traverse Symphony Orchestra.

Because the life of the most beautiful flowers is short, the artist must use all of her years of academics, and intuition to recapture that moment in time for all to enjoy. As an artist, I am enjoying my travels through life and am giving back my dreams. I am now living in Central Florida and am enjoying the opportunities afforded me here.

I am a Nautilus Fellow and on the Board of Directors of the International Society of Experimental Artists, an associate member of the Oil Painters of America. I hold membership in the Florida Watercolor Society, Georgia Watercolor Society, Artcenter of Traverse City and the Ocala Art Group.
